Power Sonix Airborne Speaker System
Guardians From Above was born out of the tragedy of James Kim’s death from exposure in the Oregon wilderness.
The Kim Family called Cpt. Scott Bakker on a day he was in Bend, Oregon, and appraising a Guardian Skymaster airplane to purchase as a SEARCH AND RESCUE aircraft. The Guardians From Above was created that very day. The purpose and mission of Guardians from Above would become clear as the events of that week unfolded.
Following the Kim family tragedy, a grass roots effort created by concerned citizens was initiated. Through their efforts, Friends of Guardians From Above was formed, a private, non-profit 501-C3 corporation that has attained IRS tax exempt status. The Friends non-profit corporation supports the Guardians From Above (air operations branch), Guardian Group EMS (ground operations) and all other humanitarian efforts through financial and material donations.
Guardians From Above (Air Support Branch) and Guardian Group EMS (Ground Operations) LLC:
A privately owned Emergency Management, Search and Rescue humanitarian air, flight, and land based organization. Guardians From Above humanitarian efforts have included flights for Veterans, for children to Oakland and Stanford Hospitals who needed special surgeries and a higher level of care.
Guardian Group EMS Created the first fixed-wing airborne state of the art Public Address System that uses Power Sonix Speakers. The voice message siren is audible for over three square miles. The system may be used to warn residents of an approaching tsunami or other disasters. In situations involving a lost child a parent or loved one prerecord a message with instructions on an MP3 player; the instructions from a familiar voice bring a child out from their hiding place. Research has proven children are relieved to hear a family member’s voice and realize there are not in trouble for being lost. To date Guardians from Above has saved two small children and four young adults that were lost in remote areas.
Zoey's Rescue Story - 2010
Four-year-old Zoey had been missing in the Oregon wilderness for 24 hours in
cold temperatures. Military and Sheriff Helicopters used heat seeking FLIRs in
hopes of finding the young girl, but without result. Ground search teams and
dogs had also combed a one mile square area with no results.
With only two hours before sundown a call came in to Capt. Scott Bakker, Mission Pilot for the Civil Air Patrol 105 Squadron.
Over the radio the Curry County Sheriff said to Capt. Bakker, "I need a miracle," and he made the formal request to launch CAP Flight 3615. The aircrew requested that a family member be transported to the Brookings, Oregon, airport to make a voice recording. This voice recording would then be played repeatedly over the speaker system in hopes of getting Zoey's attention. Zoey’s grandmother and the air crew developed a script that would encourage Zoey to let the crew know where she was.
Flying over the wilderness the message was delivered via an MP3 recorder over the Power Sonix Airborne Speaker System. The sound of Zoey's grandmother’s voice was so clear that it could be heard for over a mile, Zoey heard the message and knew her grandmother was calling for her.
